English user manual hackathon

by Yanick Witschi – Current issues

I have blogged about the current state of the documentation last year and since then, we have come a long way.

The developers manual is constantly improving and keeping up with the latest and greatest features introduced in new Contao versions and the same applies for the user manual which has seen lots of new chapters since the migration! Thanks a lot to all the contributors!

I'll happily quote myself from the last blog post because I still stand by what I wrote back then:

For me personally, it is even more important than almost every feature we have implemented in Contao since November 2019. After all, what's the point of having the greatest feature in the world if no one knows how to use it?

If you are not a software developer, the best way to contribute to Contao and its ecosystem is by taking your time and writing documentation! It is vital for our future.

From the mentioned blog post you might remember that the developers manual is written in English only whereas the user manual exists in both, English as well as German.
I am very happy to say that the user manual is still 100% in sync. New chapters have been continuously translated in either direction and Bjarke and Fritz (our documentation core team) are doing a wonderful job ensuring that this remains the way it is. Thank you!

However, there are still a bit over 50 articles that were machine translated only when we initially launched the new documentation.
A status quo that's been bothering me for a while and I would like to change that once and for all.

Hence, I'm inviting you to join us to our small English user manual hackathon.

When: June 3rd, 2021
Time: 2 p.m. aka 14:00 CEST (GMT+2)
Where: We meet on our official Contao Slack in the #english channel
How long: I'll be around for at least 4 hours but you are free to come and leave whenever you like.
Preparation: Make sure you understand how to contribute to the documentation but of course we are here to help on that day (or any other day, just ask for help in Slack).
Our to-do list: https://github.com/contao/docs/issues/712 (also contains the process description)

You don't have to be an English native by no means. The majority of us aren't. As long as you feel comfortable writing in English you are very welcome to join! You may also contribute by simply updating German screenshots for example.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all on Slack!
Let's crush this list together!
