In this short article, we will spend our time with a deep dive into the Contao universe.

Today I would like to report on the following four topics:

Core Developer Meeting

Hot off the presses, here is the eagerly awaited review of the Core Developer Meeting in 2021 written by Yanick. And something I can already tell you today; the next Contao version 4.13 will be a special treat for lovers of fine CMSes. The developers who were present in Colmar have again turned night into day and have not avoided any discussions. They collected and discarded ideas, wrote code, and lived & breathed Contao for 72 hours.

Contao events 2022: Contao Agency Day and Contao Camp

The first event will be the Contao Agency Day on March 11, 2022 in Karlsruhe. More details will follow at a later date.

The Contao Camp will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2022, and Sunday, May 1, 2022, in the center of Potsdam. There is already the possibility to participate in different workshops at the Contao College on Friday, 29 April 2022. Furthermore, we have taken up the idea from the last camp and offer the hackathon on Friday as a separate program item. It is recommended to arrive in Potsdam on Friday evening at the latest so that you don't miss the get together. In addition to the participants, sponsors are also an essential part of the camp. We would be happy if you could become a sponsor as well. If you are interested, please contact us via email.

The Contao Camp Orga Team and the Contao Association ask for a little patience and will get back to you with detailed information in the next few days.

Contao Calls

Once a month, there is a public conference call of the Contao core developers. During these calls, tickets are discussed and possible solutions are discussed.

These calls have taken place on Mumble until now. Now they have found a new home on Slack.

When developers first felt the need to share monthly in 2014, the Contao Community Alliance offered their Mumble server for use. Thank you so much for always keeping things running smoothly and maintaining the server.

The Contao Show

The Contao Show finally raises the curtain again after the summer break, on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 3:00 pm. Christian and Dennis will take us on a journey through multi-column content in Contao. So be there and learn everything about grid layouts.

Blog posts, YouTube channels and miscellaneous

• Christian introduces you to 33 ingenious Contao extensions in his blog.
• Also this year, the most outstanding works by and for Swiss companies were awarded at the Award Night of Best of Swiss Web. In the category Public Value the silver award went to SafeZone. But what does this have to do with Contao? It's simple: Liip AG, Feinheit AG and the guys from terminal42 were involved in this project and Contao is the foundation of the awarded website. Congratulations!
• The version 2.0 of Composer, the package manager for the PHP scripting language, was released a year ago. Already 65% of the installations run with this Composer version. It saves 37% bandwidth and makes 76% more requests (HTTP 304) to deliver 27% more updates. The data volume this year consisted of 2800 TB of gzip-compressed json files. Also, the PHP extension ext-curl is present on 98% of installations (Tweet).

Extensions

• On 2021-09-28 we had a small anniversary: Our monthly meeting about MetaModels took place for the 70th time - and that without a breakdown! We are in good spirits that we will crack the 100 as well ;-)
  The attributes ContentArticle and translated ContentArticle have been released as "stable release". With the attributes it is possible to include all Contao content elements in a record individually - so it works like an "article"... hence the name. MM 2.2: The pagination of the list output has been revised and now has more setting options. List building in the backend is now faster by a factor of 100 when sorting by a translated attribute.
