Sharing content on Twitter with TYPOlight

– From practice

What's Twitter? For those of you who haven't used it yet, Twitter describes itself as, “a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”

As a real-time vehicle for communication and expression, Twitter enables dynamic interaction on a direct, targeted level that was previously unattainable. Because of the tool’s powerful influence, Twitter has fundamentally altered the way people relate to each other and has forced businesses to reevaluate their traditional approaches to marketing.

As of April 14, 2010 Twitter has 105,779,710 registered users and receives 180 million unique visitors per month (source: With all those people, the chances for networking are endless and connecting with new people can lead to career and business opportunities.

How can Twitter help you increase awareness and drive traffic to your brand/product/content? When "tweeting", you can include links to content of interest on your own website. As you only have 140 characters available on Twitter to get your message across, it makes sense to add a link to your recent news post, for example.

The TYPOlight extension News Twitter does exactly that! With News Twitter you can send a status update to Twitter the moment you publish a news item. This update can also including a link back to your website, which makes sharing TYPOlight managed content with Twitter "followers" much easier and more efficient.

News Twitter is very flexible. For your Twitter message or "tweet" you can choose to enter a custom message or use the first 120 characters of your news teaser. You can also define if you want to send the Twitter update instantly, or schedule the message. If you schedule, the module checks each hour if there are news to twitt and sends them when they are published.
